Life gets busy! However, that is all the more reason to take time for yourself….. meaning body, mind and spirit. Recently I wanted to detox my body. Whether to cleanse the system, lose weight or increase energy, I feel this is a positive process to do several times a year.
Yet, with our busy schedules, taking time to go to a designated clinic or spa to do a detoxification program can be costly and overwhelming. Hence, doing something that is manageable and cost effective is right down my alley. I knew that a complete fast would be out of the question. I knew that an herbal bowel cleanser could become challenging since I was traveling and teaching so I chose a complete liquid diet for 2 ½ weeks.
When embarking on a liquid cleansing, the liquids need to be a balance of fruit, vegetable and protein. Many times when people do go on a liquid diet they tend to overdo it with fruit juices because they are easier to make or buy. However, that can put the body into an imbalance of acid alkaline and cause problems with the goal of the cleansing.
I opted for fruit juices, vegetable soups and yogurt. I always like making my own juices but when traveling that may be impossible. The alternative is to shop in natural food stores which allow one to find bottled organic juices even veggie juice such as carrot. Sometimes the stores will make fresh juice on the spot! YUM!
I also drank plenty of water, 1 oz. per pound of body weight a day, since I was exercising and seeing patients while doing the cleansing. Coconut water is jammed packed full of nutrients so I also added this to my detox along with almond milk, rice milk and some detoxing herbal teas. I also “drank” homemade yogurt for protein and extra acidophilus, the natural intestinal bacteria that improves digestion and the immune system.
I watched the changes in my body and was quite pleased to feel the toxins leaving and the weight as well. I lost 10 pounds and it wasn’t just water weight!! I hope you have such gratifying results as I did.
Happy Trails!
