Carnival is an integral part of the Caribbean and Dominica does her share with great pomp and circumstance. One of the events is the Queen Show. Candidates are dressed, pressed and rehearsed for a stage performance of talent, swim suit, spectacular wear, evening wear and an intellectual question.
I have only missed one Queen Show and also have provided a pruning of a different flavor for two years. The candidates spent a day with me learning about self-esteem and confidence. Regardless of one being physically beautiful, self-esteem and brains are necessary as we mature. It was gratifying to see the eager response of the candidates.
My office also provided a muscle scan to check for areas of nerve problems and a postural analysis to hone their poise and movement with more awareness. The day was definitely more serious, and from their feedback more beneficial, than the “fluff and puff” of most Carnival contestants.
