The heart as an organ, pumps life blood throughout our body and is vital to our well being.  On an emotional side, history shows the heart has been considered the source of emotion, courage and wisdom.  What is so exciting at this present time is that new research by Heart Math (HM) Research Center shows a great deal more about our amazing “pump” that has not been considered.

HM points to their research showing that heart rate variability or heart rhythms stand out as the most dynamic and reflective of inner emotional states and stress.  Clearly, negative emotions lead to increased disorder in the heart’s rhythms and in the autonomic nervous system, adversely affecting the rest of the body.  On the other hand, positive emotions create increased harmony and coherence in heart rhythms and improve balance in the nervous system.

HM observed that the heart acts as though it has a” mind of its own” and profoundly influences the way we perceive and respond to the world.  In other words, it appears the heart affects intelligence and awareness.  Therefore, the heart is far more than a simple pump.  It is, in fact, a highly complex self-organized information and processing center with its own functional “brain” that communicates with and influences the cranial brain via the nervous system, hormonal system and other pathways.

Such an influence profoundly affects brain function and most of the body’s major organs and ultimately determines the quality of life of an individual. WOW!!

I am so pleased to have in my office a Pulse Wave Profiler that allows me to see the heart rhythms of my patients and in turn allows me to provide a greater information foundation upon which they can make choices about their life style changes.  Chiropractic adjustments are part and parcel of realignment of the spine to help improve erratic rhythms.
