Foot pain can be debilitating.  Just ask any woman who is in ill fitted high heels!  In fact wearing non supportive, ill fitting shoes can be the culprit for not only foot pain but also, low back and leg pain.  Even headaches can be caused by foot problems!

When I see some of the 4 and 5 inch platform stiletto heels, I know as a chiropractor that they are not sold for comfort or health only for fashion.  And we women eat it up, much to our detriment!  Here are some NO-NOs in the health field regarding footwear.

Thigh high boots actually can cause damage to the nerves in the leg especially the sciatic nerve and result in burning and tingling from top to bottom of the legs.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Comfy sheep skin boots don’t allow the feet to  breath by their design and encourage the build up of foot fungus.  They are also meant for lounging, not standing or walking because there is NO support  built into them.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Worn out shoes can become “favorites” because they feel comfortable but with run over heels, little shock absorption, lack of foot protection from thread bare material, canvas or leather puts the feet as higher risk for pain, fatigue and injury.

 

 

 

 

 

Platform heels can foster ankle instability which leads to easier sprains, foot pain, muscle spasm and postural distortion.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ballet flats feel comfortable at first but have NO support whatsoever for the foot and hence our posture.  They are no better than a flip flop except for enclosing the entire foot.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Stilleto heels are notorious for causing stretched Achilles tendons.  And really take a look at their shape.  It is obvious they  put the foot in an unnatural arch which can also cause leg cramps too.

 

 

 

 

 

Flip flops without a heel strap give NO support and force the calf muscles to engage each time a step is taken.  Planar fascitis can be caused by flip flops along with low back pain and foot cramping.

 

 

 

 

So ladies, take your foot care seriously.  It is for your improved health and overall body wellness. As you age, you will thank yourself for wiser choices.
