Acidity and alkalinity are measured according to a pH scale. A neutral substance with a pH of 7.0 is considered neutral. Any substance below 7.0 is acidic and, likewise, anything above 7.0 is alkaline. The ideal pH for a human body is 6.0-6.8.
It is easy to determine you own pH with litus paper strips purchased at a drug store or pharmacy. They can be used with either urine or saliva as indicated on the label. The paper will change color to indicate where you lie on the scale.
Acidosis is a condition in which the body chemistry becomes overly acidic. Symptoms from this can range from frequent sighing, insomnia, water retention, recessed eyes, arthritis, migraine headaches, abnormally low blood pressure, acidic or strong perspiration, dry hard stools, foul-smelling stools accompanied by a burning sensation in the anus, difficulty swallowing, halitosis, and bumps on the tongue or roof of the mouth.
Two kinds of acidosis are recognized. Respiratory acidosis is caused by asthma, bronchitis or obstruction of an airway in which the lungs are unable to remove carbon dioxide from the body. Metabolic acidosis occurs when chemical changes in the body disturb the acid/alkaline balance. Liver and adrenal disorders, stomach ulcers, obesity, stress, anorexia, toxemia, diabetes mellitus, kidney failure and large amounts of aspirin consumption can cause this particular malady.
To reverse acidosis eat a 50% raw food diet. Especially consume apples, avocados, bananas, blackberries, grapefruit, pears, lemons, pineapple, strawberries, grapes and all veggies. Drink potato broth every day.
