I am staying again with my cousin in Cape Coral Florida.  In April I encouraged her and her husband to change their lifestyle after doing extensive alternative care for them with amazing benefits.  They took my advice and the ongoing process is so exciting and rewarding!

One of their new discoveries is called “surge training”.  It is a way of engaging the cardiovascular system in intense exercise for a very short period of time that has proven to have some wonderful results.

Surge training is done every other day for 20 seconds with three repetitions.  Rest in between for 10 seconds.  After two weeks, increase the time to 30 seconds with a rest period of 20 seconds.

Do not exercise the same body parts two days in a row.  The idea is to move your body AS FAST AS YOU CAN for 20 seconds. This can engage 80% of your heart rate capacity.  Then rest for 20 seconds.  Repeat the movement 3 times.  Then move to another body part and repeat again. One more time, vary the body part moved.  So for only 15 minutes a day, you can reward yourself with exercise that is fun, quick and beneficial.

My cousin has a pool so some of the workouts are done in the water.  You can be creative with your own movements but here are some suggestions:

Running in place.  (Best done on a mini-trampoline or rebounder or in the water).   Squats.  Jumping Jacks.  Crunches.  Stair steps.  Push ups.  Pull ups.

DO NOT STOP MOVING IN THE 30 SECONDS EXERCISE PERIOD
