One of my health conscious friends sent some information on Face Book which I researched and pass on to other readers. The technique is called “oil pulling or swishing.” Its origin comes from ancient Ayuvedic medicine. It is simple and from research I read, effective for many things.
Here is the procedure:
1. Using cold processed coconut, sesame or sunflower oil and on an empty stomach put 1Tbs. (tablespoon) in your mouth and hold it there. Regular commercial oil will work too if you can’t find cold processed.
2. Start moving it around by pulling, sucking and swishing it through your teeth and over the inside mouth cavity.
3. Do this for 15 -20 minutes, one to three times a day, while you do other simple tasks.
4. DO NOT SWALLOW it. The oil is toxic as it picks up bacteria, viruses, etc. and turnS a milky white color. Spit it into a sink after the time is up. If it is still yellow do another round of swishing.
5. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with water and use clean fingers to remove any residue oil. No need really to brush your teeth.
And now for the benefits. A 1996 survey in India reported that 89% of the people swishing had one chronic disease that was cured. Swishing whitens the teeth, eliminates bleeding gums and fastens loose teeth. Arthritis, gingivitis and many other chronic diseases are supposedly helped as well . This can take up to three days or a year depending on the severity of the disease.
Dr. F. Karach ,M.D authored a paper on oil pulling and reports the post spittle is filled with toxins and debris which needs to be expelled from the body. According to Dr. Karach, the oil acts as a cleanser “pulling” out bacteria like oil in an engine. Mucus is one of the biggest substances to be expelled. If it is in your throat while swishing spit it out and continue pulling with another dose of clean oil.
So I am giving it a try with coconut oil. Cant’ hurt, is very simple, so time will tell.
