Kids Day Dominica 2009 was the most well attended and largest collection of displays and demonstrations from the community.  This was  also the last time Dr. Taylor sponsored the event.  It took place at the Old Mill Cultural Center from 12:00 until 3:00 two weeks after school began on Dominica.

The public library had a wonderful display of books centering on health, safety and environmental awareness.   Many local businesses and professionals set up displays or offered demonstrations.  The Ministries of Health, Safety and the Environment rose to the occasion with displays and hand outs on various timely topics.

Finger printing and free photos were done so each child could put them in their Child ID cards that Dr. Taylor donated.  A three minute massage was given to each child so the parent could learn how to rub them properly.  The fire truck again offered rides on its ladder box.  Face painting and helium balloons were a popular station.

Door prize tickets could be purchased for $1 as there was a door prize drawing every 10 minutes to dispense over 100 prizes!   The monies collected from the tickets was split in half and donated to the two charities.  Of course everyone received a drink and a finger food.

Since the local community was familiar with past Kids Days, children were anxious to win the child’s bike.  In order to qualify, a coupon was given to each child that listed all the 27 stations to visit.  Once all were checked off at each station the coupon was placed in a jar for the drawing.  The boy who won the bike could barely contain himself as you can see in his photo.

Looking back on the five years of sponsoring the event Dr. Taylor remarked of the volunteers, staff, donations, demonstrations and displays,  “We came, we saw, we united and we were victorious!”
